NAC (N-acetyl-L-cysteine) is a derivative of L-cysteine, a sulfur-containing amino acid naturally present in the human body. NAC is a precursor of glutathione – a tripeptide composed of glycine, L-glutamic acid, and L-cysteine, known for its strong antioxidant potential.

Because glutathione supplementation is ineffective and L-cysteine is unstable, NAC is considered the most effective way to support glutathione levels in the body. Since NAC does not occur naturally in food, its supplementation is especially beneficial for physically active individuals.
